PARIS, September 1 (Itar-Tass) - European Union has an acute deficit of balanced and unbiased information on events in Ukraine, believes Jean-Pierre Chevenement, a member of the French Senate and a veteran politician.
On Monday, he took part in a session of the Franco-Russian Dialogue business association that was held in the official residence of the Russian ambassador in Paris, Alexander Orlov.
Along with the shortage of objective data on the conflict, which is gaining pace, its cost is growing for all the parties involved in it, Chevenement said.
He believes that the start of the so-called antiterrorist operation by Kiev ran counter to the letter and spirit of the May 10 Franco-German statement on the principles of peace settlement in Ukraine, in which President Francois Hollande and Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel urged the Kiev authorities to use force only in the interests of defending people and infrastructures.
The senator said he hoped to go on a diplomatic mission to Moscow in two weeks' time and he also said the number of proponents of better relations with Russia would hopefully continue growing, since the political and economic sanctions the EU and Moscow imposed on each other was a road to absolutely nowhere.
Jean-Pierre Chevenement, who has occupied governmental posts on a number of occasions in the past, is a founder of the ruling Socialist Party "Franco-Russian relations have always been an element of balance on
the European Continent," he said.
