Sunday, 14 February 2021_Iran has churned out 65 percent more aluminum in the 10 months to late January as the country’s metals and mining sector keeps growing in a blow to the US sanctions targeting its trade of metals.

Iran’s aluminum output rises by 65% y/y in late JanuaryIran’s official IRNA news agency said in a Saturday report that the total production for unwrought aluminum in four major aluminum smelters in the country had reached 364,783 metric tons between March 20 last year and January 19 this year.

Unwrought aluminum output topped 39,000 tons in the single month to January 19, a growth of 58 percent year on year, said the report.

Largest growth in production per smelter had been recorded at IRALCO, a large plant located in central Iran whose 10-month production exceeded 155,000 tons, an increase of over 42 percent year on year.

The increased production of aluminum comes as Iran recorded a stable output for alumina, the powder used to make aluminum, as output in the country’s sole alumina plant topped 193,000 tons over the period, showed the report.
