Judiciary sets deadline for govt. to censor social apps

Tehran, YJC. In letter to communications ministry, Ejei has ordered the minister to see to the ‘criminal content’ on internet.

Judiciary First Deputy Qolamhossein Mohseni Ejei in a letter to the Minister of Communications and IT stated "In keeping with the command of the Head of the Judiciary ayatollah Amoli, appropriate measures must be taken within one month to lay the technical ground for effectively blocking and controlling the information on social networks with criminal content.”

Else, the Judiciary will do its intrinsic duty in blocking the aforementioned networks and will take legal action against those who have violated the commands of the judiciary, whatever rank they may be, the letter adds.

The letter has ordered the communication ministry to block access to Whats app, Viber, and Tango among others, applications that are widely used by Iranians for chatting online.
