Sunday, 15 August 2021 (YJC)_The Prime Minister of Malaysia will submit his resignation to the King of this country tomorrow.

Malaysian PM resignsMalaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is set to hand over his resignation to King Abdullah on Monday, said Malaysian cabinet minister Mohammad Rezwan bin Youssef.

According to the cabinet minister, after Muhyiddin failed to win over the opposition, he informed them of his decision to resign. A special cabinet meeting is scheduled for tomorrow.

According to Malaysia Kini, Muhyiddin Yassin took power in March 2020 with a large number of opponents. Pressure has mounted on him recently after some lawmakers in the United National Organization of Malaysia (the largest bloc in the ruling coalition) stopped supporting him.

The prime minister has repeatedly opposed his opponents' call for his resignation, saying he would prove in September that he had a majority vote of confidence. But two days ago, he admitted for the first time that he did not have a majority of votes.

The prime minister said he had made a last-ditch effort to persuade the opposition to promise political and electoral reform in exchange for a vote of confidence, but the proposal was unanimously rejected.
