Wednesday, 8 September 2021 (YJC)_ Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman announced that the next round of the meeting of Afghanistan neighbors will be hosted by Iran.
During his remarks after today's virtual meeting of the six neighboring countries of Afghanistan hosted by Pakistan Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh announced that the next round of the meeting of Afghanistan neighbors will be hosted by Iran, if Covid-19 allows.
“At today's meeting, the foreign ministers expressed their views with Iranian foreign minister Amir-Abdollahian,” Khatibzadeh said.
According to him “During this meeting, Iranian foreign minister blamed the 20 years of US occupation for the current situation in Afghanistan and the suffering of the Afghans.”
“Now, with the help of the neighboring countries, all leaders and people of Afghanistan must join hands to achieve lasting peace in the country,” he said while citing Iranian top diplomat’s speech.
Khatibzadeh went on to say that “During the meeting the need for humanitarian assistance and respect for international and humanitarian law had been also stressed.”
The spokesman went on to say that the foreign ministers of neighboring countries were seriously concerned about terrorism in Afghanistan and added “"Borders have to be calm and border crossings need to be kept open to help the Afghan people. Taliban must keep their distance from terrorists and do not allow terrorism to re-emerge in the country.”
Finally, he announced that during today’s virtual meeting it was agreed that if the coronavirus pandemic allows the next meeting will be hosted by Tehran in the next one or two months.
