Tehran, yjc. Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani assured Iraq on Wednesday that Tehran will keep assisting Baghdad in its fight against ISIL.
"The Iranian government and nation will stand by the Iraqi people and government in all circumstances, supporting them with the maximum power,” Larijani said in a meeting with Iraq's Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi in Tehran on Wednesday.

Larijani stressed that in cooperation with each other, Iran and Iraq will not allow the terrorist groups to pose any threat to Iraq’s security, independence and territorial integrity.

Al-Abadi, for his part, expressed gratitude to Iran for its contribution to the establishment of peace and security in the Arab country.

"Iran has had a unique role in helping Iraq in sensitive and difficult points of time over the past years,” noted Abadi.

ISIL militants made rapid advances in much of northern and western Iraq in the past few months.

Amid tensions in Iraq, Iran is known as the first country to help the Arab country and has always voiced support the neighbor.
