Sunday, 17 October 2021 (YJC)_The Iranian film, ‘Careless Crime,’ directed by Shahram Mokri, won Best Film Award at the New Views section at the Olhar de Cinema, known as the Curitiba International Film Festival, in Curitiba, Brazil.

Iran’s ‘Careless Crime’ wins Best Film Award in Brazilian festivalThe New Views section presents films with a daring radicalism in their aesthetic proposals as they cope with adventure and risky unknown paths. The films invite the audience to a lyrical plunge, proposing the coldness of epic detachment, investigating allegorical creations, or venturing on the encounter with the real, according to the festival’s website.

The Iranian movie narrates the story of an audience that starts talking before the movie begins and, finally, their story turns out to be the same story as in the movie.

The 135-minute movie was internationally premiered at the Orizzonti section of the 77th Venice Film Festival in Italy.

Ana Souza who was the jury member of the Brazilian festival said, “The film had all the characteristics that were sought after in this festival. Features such as bold radicalism to achieve a new aesthetic in cinema.”

‘Careless Crime’ has previously won an award for Best Original Screenplay in the International Film Critics' Week (SIC) during the 77th Venice Film Festival, the Best Screenplay Award at the 19th Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) in Bangladesh, and the Silver Hugo Award from the 56th Chicago International Film Festival.

The film has also screened at the MOOOV Filmfestival in Belgium and the 22nd Jeonju International Film Festival in South Korea, the Sharjah Film Platform (SFP) in the UAE, the Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF45), the 11th Luxembourg City Film Festival, the 40th Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival (MSPIFF) in the US, and the Gässli Film Festival in Basel, Switzerland.
