Guterres: I thank the Islamic Republic of Iran for holding the Afghanistan SummitThe Secretary-General thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for hosting a video conference on Afghanistan on Wednesday night, sending a video message.

According to the United Nations website, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a statement:
I thank the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran for organizing this meeting at such a critical juncture. Afghanistan is facing a humanitarian crisis and is on the verge of a catastrophe. I want to highlight four areas for action. First, humanitarian aid. For its part, despite huge obstacles, the United Nations is conducting a large-scale humanitarian operation in the country. We have worked with the Taliban, who have gradually gained access to the requested areas and provided security when needed.

The following is the message:
I thank you for your help in relocating aid workers and humanitarian aid, and I also want to emphasize the need to continue working together to ensure the support and assistance of refugees. International support for host countries should be commensurate with the scale of the needs. Second, we must find ways to prevent the complete collapse of Afghanistan's economy. We must work together to revitalize the economy and help people survive. Injecting liquidity into the Afghan economy can be done without violating international law or undermining principles.

The Secretary-General continued:
Third, the people of Afghanistan need an inclusive and representative government that respects international humanitarian law and upholds human rights and fundamental freedoms. I am deeply saddened by the violations of human rights, including the rights of women, children and ethnic minorities, and the recent horrific terrorist attacks on religious institutions that have claimed many lives. We must continue to interact to help move in the right direction.

Guterres added:
Fourth, Afghanistan and the region need a country that is safe, not one that is a haven for terrorism or a drug trafficking hub. This is vital for peace and stability in the region and around the world. These are all issues that the region has common interests on, and we all need to speak with one voice. We can only achieve greater stability with a single approach. Let us work together with determination and without delay to help the people of Afghanistan and secure a better future for all.
