Amir-Abdollahian: No Major Obstacle in Expansion of Ties with TurkeyIn a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu in Tehran, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stressed good relations between Iran and Turkey and said there is no major obstacle in broadening the ties between two countries.

Amir-Abdollahian expressed the hope that, during the future visit of Turkish President Recep Teyyip Erdogan to Iran, the two countries would finalize the roadmap for mutual cooperation.

He announced that during this meeting both diplomats agreed to start the diplomatic talks on the provisions of the roadmap for long-term cooperation and said that “I hope to sign this document in the presence of the two presidents during the forthcoming visit of Turkish President Erdogan to Tehran.”

“We both had useful discussions on a variety of regional and international issues in the meeting,” he said while noting that “Latest developments in Afghanistan, the need for expansion of stability, security and peace in the West Asian region and neighborhood policy of the two countries of Iran and Turkey” were among the issues discussed in the meeting.

“Any possible obstacles to the two countries' relations should be immediately removed,” he noted.

“Development of economic and trade cooperation, increase in cooperation in the field of energy, facilitation of transit traffic, strengthening of cross-border trade and consular,” were also among the topics that Iranian foreign minister emphasized on.

Prior to this, while addressing a group of analysts, university professors, media activists and Iranian ambassadors Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that Iran’s policy is to remove the illegal and cruel US sanctions in the upcoming Vienna talks.

Amir-Abdollahian also had a phone talk with UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, in which he stressed the need for taking US accountable for the current situation and called some other JCPOA parties responsible for that as well.

He also related the success of Vienna talks to the “lifting of all sanctions against Tehran, the return of all parties to their commitments, and providing the necessary guarantees for the implementation of the results of the talks and the verification of the other sides' actions.”
