Tuesday, 23 November 2021 (YJC)_ The US State Department has announced new sanctions against Russia in connection with the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced on Tuesday morning new sanctions against Russia over the North Stream 2 gas pipeline project.
According to the US Secretary of State, Transadria, as well as two ships affiliated with the company, have been subject to new US sanctions.
The Stream-2 rolling project is the construction of two pipelines for the annual export of 55 million cubic meters of gas from the Russian coast to Germany via the Baltic Sea. The project was halted in December 2020 due to US sanctions against the Swiss construction company, but resumed after a while.
Germany and the United States reached an agreement in July that allowed Russia to build a Russian gas pipeline to Europe without further sanctions by Washington.
However, in this agreement, both countries are committed to counteracting any Russian use of the Stream 2 gas pipeline as a political lever against Europe.
Russia has repeatedly stated that it will not use energy as a lever of political pressure.
