Tehran, YJC. Chairman of Expediency Discernment Council says the Caspian Sea is one of the most important fields of cooperation between Iran and Russia.

Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani speaking to the Russian State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin in Tehran on Monday said the Russian parliamentary delegation visit to Tehran is a good chance for a new round of Tehran-Moscow relations, the Expediency Council Public Relations Office reported on Monday.

Pointing to recent talks between President Hassan Rouhani and his Russia counterpart Mr. President Vladimir Putin, the expediency chief emphasized the cooperation capacity between the two countries, adding that expansion of ties is going to be beneficial to both countries today and in the future.

He stated that cooperation in education and research between the two countries is highly valuable, adding that such cooperation could be a base for stronger bonds for both private and public sectors.

Strengthening bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of oil and gas, is valuable for both countries and stronger cooperation will contribute to the convergence of littoral states of the sea, maintained Rafsanjani.

Naryshkin, brought up the memories of ayatollah Rafsanjani's visit to former Soviet Union during which important agreements were signed and said that Russians consider the ayatollah as the founder of bilateral relations between the two countries.

He stressed interactions between officials of the two counties for coordination on regional and global issues and asserted that regional developments are highly dependent on Iran-Russia relations.
