Lebanese Defense Minister: Iraq announces readiness for military assistance

Tuesday, 11 January 2022 (YJC)_ Regarding the outcome of his visit to Baghdad, the Lebanese Defense Minister said that Iraqi officials expressed their willingness to help Lebanon at various levels, especially the military.

Lebanese Defense Minister Maurice Salim met today with Lebanese President Michel Aoun to brief him on the outcome of his visit to Iraq.

According to the Al-Nashra website, Salim said after the meeting:
Iraqi officials have expressed their willingness to help Lebanon at various levels, especially at the military level.

The Lebanese defense minister traveled to Iraq on January 26 to discuss strengthening military and security co-operation

During the trip, Salim and his accompanying delegation met with Qassim al-Araji, Iraq's national security adviser, to discuss strengthening relations between Iraq and Lebanon and ways to develop them.

According to media reports, the meeting focused on the development of security and military cooperation between the two countries, including the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the Iraqi and Lebanese Ministries of Defense in the military field.

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati also traveled to Iraq on October 25 to meet with his Iraqi counterpart Mustafa al-Kadhimi.
