Tuesday, 8 February 2022 (YJC)_ In a telephone conversation with his Chinese counterpart, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasized the serious and effective decision of the Western side in the field of lifting sanctions.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and Wang Yi, a member of the State Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, discussed bilateral relations, the Vienna talks, and international developments over the phone.
The Chinese Foreign Minister praised and thanked Iran for its participation in the Beijing Winter Olympics, saying:
The world will witness an amazing and safe event and we hope that Iranian athletes will also achieve good results in these international games.
It is worth mentioning that Iran had previously condemned the boycott of the Winter Olympics by the United States and some European countries.
Referring to Ayatollah Raeisi's letter to Xi Jinping on Iran-China relations, Wang Yi expressed readiness to expand and deepen bilateral relations in all fields, and to further strengthen cooperation and coordination between the two countries on regional and international issues.
Amir Abdullahian, while thanking and appreciating the Chinese government's supportive position in the Vienna talks on lifting sanctions, while explaining Iran's policies, stressed the need for realism on the part of the West.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of our country stated:
The Western side must make a serious and effective decision in the field of lifting sanctions and show its significant distance from the failed policies of the previous US administration, and this issue will be possible by lifting all sanctions against the UN Security Council and taking serious action in the field of guarantee.
The Chinese Foreign Minister stressed that the unilateral withdrawal of the United States has caused damage and violation of Iran's legitimate rights, emphasizing that cooperation and consultations during the Vienna talks and the presentation of reasonable demands and reform proposals by the Iranian side are supported by China.
