Friday, 11 February 2022 (YJC)_ The US Senate member described the continuation of the previous US administration's policy against Iran as insane, saying that the sanctions imposed on Iran after leaving the Security Council were "shamefully ineffective".
In a note, US Senator Chris Murphy once again criticized the former US administration's policy of leaving the JCPOA, saying that the breaches created by this approach left no choice but for Biden to agree with Iran.
Murphy wrote in the headline of his note, which was published Thursday in the website of Time magazine:
Trump's failures on Iran have left Biden with no choice but to reach an agreement.
Murphy then wrote, referring to the ongoing talks in Vienna:
The Biden administration has been trying to bring Iran back to the negotiating table, but Iran is reluctant to negotiate after the United States suddenly came under the table.
He noted that the continuation of Trump's policy towards Iran for another month or another year is insane:
So now is the time for the negotiating team to make the clever but necessary concessions to resume implementing a version of the Obama nuclear deal.
He wrote:
Yes, Iran must compromise in the same way, but time is running out and a new agreement needs to be reached soon. The new deal may not be the same as the Obama deal, given the footholds we lost during the Trump era, but an agreement with Iran that increases its runaway time and allows inspections to resume will make the world a safer place.
Chris Murphy also wrote to those who oppose the lifting of sanctions imposed on Iran during the Trump era that these sanctions have had no effect. he writes:
And to those who oppose easing Trump's sanctions to reach a new agreement, the United States has not benefited from maintaining those sanctions. Trump's sanctions have been embarrassingly ineffective.
