Sunday, 13 February 2022 (YJC)_ An Elysee Palace official says the French president's phone call with his Russian counterpart showed no sign of the Russian president preparing to attack Ukraine.
A French presidential official said Russian President Vladimir Putin had made "no sign of preparing to attack Ukraine" in a telephone call with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on Saturday evening.
"We do not see any sign in President Putin that he wants to attack," the Elysee official told reporters after Macron and Putin spoke on the phone for nearly 90 minutes.
According to Reuters, the French official, whose name or position was not disclosed, explained:
However, we are very careful about Russia's [military] positions to prevent the worst.
He added that Paris advises French nationals to refrain from traveling to Ukraine and to leave the country if embassy staff and their families wish.
According to the report, the French official said that the ambassador of Paris in Kiev will examine the situation of about one thousand French citizens in Ukraine, many of whom have dual citizenship.
