Friday, 18 February 2022 (YJC)_ Canadian police have warned protesters in central Ottawa that they will take action soon if they do not leave.

Canadian police warn: Protesters await severe punishmentOttawa police have warned protesters occupying the city center that they are ready to take immediate action to end the protests and face "severe punishment" if they do not leave.

The Canadian government has in recent days taken to the streets to quell protests in the country and forced them to cut off some services to some protesters.

In a rare move, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday used his so-called "emergency law" to impose sweeping measures that require banks to block accounts related to unlicensed protests, urging insurers to provide services. Suspend protesting vehicles and monitor crowdfunding platforms for "terrorism financing" laws.

Trucks opposed to restrictions on the corona outbreak in Canada have blocked roads in the city center for about three weeks. The movement sparked anti-government protests in other countries and temporarily closed US-Canadian border crossings.

Threats of fines and imprisonment have prompted protesters to withdraw from four border crossings with the United States this week. Police in Ottawa have made similar threats.
