Friday, 25 February 2022 (YJC)_ The French Foreign Minister said that the country is ready to help the President of Ukraine in the event of a threat to his life.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian claimed that the developments in Ukraine, especially in the Donbass region, were nothing more than an excuse for Putin to start a full-scale war. He added that the security of the Ukrainian president was a key issue and that Paris was ready to assist Zelensky in the event of a death threat.
According to Al-Jazeera, the French Minister of Economy also said in a statement that the purpose of European economic sanctions is to hit the Russian economy and isolate it from the financial system. He added:
We seek to diversify energy sources to strengthen Europe's independence in the field of energy, especially gas.
Earlier, Zelensky vowed in a video message this morning (Friday) to stay in Kiev while Ukrainian forces confront Russian forces. He said:
The enemy has identified me as the number one target, and my family is the number two target. They want to destroy Ukraine politically by overthrowing the head of state. I will stay in the capital. My family is also in Ukraine.
Asked if he was concerned about Zelensky's security, former Secretary of State Anthony Blinken told CBS News:
As far as I know, President Zelensky remains in office in Ukraine, and of course we are concerned about the security of all our friends in Ukraine, government officials and others.
