Thursday, 24 March 2022 (YJC)_ During the meeting with Amir-Abdollahian, the Syrian Foreign Minister said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is benevolent to its neighbors, adding: "We are pleased with the meetings and contacts between Iran and Saudi Arabia."
During the talks between the Foreign Ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Syria, ways to expand relations and cooperation between the two countries, regional developments and the international situation were discussed.
Our Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, who is in Damascus to consult with high-ranking Syrian officials, met with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Mekdad on Wednesday afternoon.
In this meeting, Amir-Abdollahian, referring to the continuous contacts between the officials of the two countries at different levels, assessed the Iran-Syria relations as excellent and strategic, while emphasizing the role of the two countries' foreign ministries in pursuing agreements to implement them. In the field of trade and economic cooperation, we must activate the facilities of the two countries so that the economic relations and the volume of trade relations between the two countries reach their proper position. In this regard, in addition to the implementation of previous agreements, new areas of cooperation should also be on the agenda.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of our country considered the public relations between the two nations important and said:
With the expansion of interactions and exchanges between the people of the two countries, tourism cooperation, including tourism and pilgrimage, will expand, and the markets of the two countries will benefit from such exchanges.
Referring to his talks with the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Syria, Amir-Abdollahian said: "One-sided attention to one of the Syrian issues and not paying attention to other issues, especially issues such as the situation of refugees and the exchange of prisoners and wounded, which is also humanitarian." , Can not gain Syria's trust in international efforts.
The Syrian Foreign Minister also expressed satisfaction with the close positions of the two countries in the face of regional crises and said: "We have always had the same positions on the resistance front."
He praised the results of the Astana process in resolving the Syrian issue, and in particular the presence of the Islamic Republic of Iran in it.
Al-Mekdad called for the restoration and improvement of Arab countries' relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and said:
The Islamic Republic of Iran is benevolent to its neighbors, and we are pleased with the meetings and contacts between Iran and Saudi Arabia, and we hope that regional and international conditions will help improve these relations.
Faisal al-Mekdad considered the economic cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Syria important and necessary in the context of foreign sanctions and pressure on this country.
