The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, today (Thursday) in the third meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Afghanistan's neighboring countries in China, while thanking the Government of the People's Republic of China for hosting this meeting, said:
Today in Afghanistan we are witnessing various challenges. Hope for an end to the 40-year-old war that has plagued Afghanistan for generations and caused severe damage to Afghanistan's human and material resources.
The Foreign Minister stated:
Hope for the interest of all Afghan people in establishing peace and tranquility in the country and serious opposition to war and seeking peaceful settlement of disputes. Hope for regional integration, especially among neighbors in helping Afghanistan. Hope not to forget the problems and hardships of Afghan people. The international community is still afraid of the activities of various terrorist groups such as ISIS in Afghanistan against the security of its neighbors and the international community. There is still a fear of war arising from the intervention of the occupiers against the oppressed people of this land. The economic resources of the Afghan people are not yet available to them and Afghanistan's national wealth is blocked. The country's economy has not moved and most of the people in the country are in a difficult situation. The most important political promise to form an inclusive government with the participation of all ethnic groups has not yet been fulfilled.
Amir-Abdollahian added:
The experience of long-term interaction between the countries of the region and the people and political groups of Afghanistan shows that paying attention to social realities is an undeniable necessity in the political sphere of that country and ignoring it is the biggest cause of conflict and the most important obstacle to political continuity. Afghanistan's political structures have been in the past. Today, the need to form an inclusive government with the effective and sustained presence and participation of all ethnic groups in Afghanistan is an undeniable fact. We expect the Governing Body to take further practical steps in this direction.
The Foreign Minister stated: The root of Afghanistan's problems can be attributed to the long occupation of this country and the wrong policies of the occupiers and the United States. The long occupation of Afghanistan not only did not help its development but also created a kind of dependence that caused the political and economic structures to collapse with the retreat of the occupiers and the oppressed people of Afghanistan as always to be the biggest losers and victims of this situation. Unfortunately, this unconstructive approach continues.
He continued:
The first and most important consequence of this approach is the dire humanitarian situation in Afghanistan. UN reports show that more than half of the Afghan people, including women and children, are in need of assistance and unable to meet their basic needs. All countries, especially neighboring countries, need to help the Afghan people in any way they can. In this regard, the Islamic Republic of Iran has sent more than 30 shipments of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan in recent months and distributed it among the people; It has continued to export essential goods to Afghanistan, keeping its routes open to transit shipments, hosting hundreds of thousands of homeless Afghans, and expressing its readiness to cooperate with other countries interested in helping Afghanistan. Second, all countries must work to liberate Afghanistan's assets in a way that helps improve the country's humanitarian situation. The third issue is the recruitment of extremist and terrorist groups. The development of ISIL's terrorist activities in Afghanistan has left no doubt that we need collective action by countries in the region to combat terrorism.
He continued:
The threat of terrorism and its spread in Afghanistan is serious and there are traces of the United States in it. Of course, today the United States is not talking about participating in the reconstruction of Afghanistan, while it has occupied this country for 20 years and has not taken any action to help the people.
The Foreign Minister noted:
I suggest that a specific security mechanism be established in the form of existing organizations or with an independent entity to coordinate the counter-terrorism policy of Afghanistan's neighboring countries to facilitate and manage the collective actions of countries and the exchange of information in this regard.
