Turkey has announced the launch of a large-scale air and ground operation in northern IraqThe Turkish Ministry of Defense has announced the launch of an operation against PKK militants in northern Iraq.

According to the Anatolian News Agency, the Turkish Ministry of Defense said that the new operation was launched with the participation of the Turkish Air Force and Special Forces against the hideouts of elements of the PKK terrorist group.

The operation began as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government President Masrur Barzani on Friday.

According to a statement from the Turkish Presidential Communications Office, the talks focused on Ankara and Erbil's steps and policies on bilateral relations and regional developments.

The Turkish military's military operations in northern Iraq come at a time when the Iraqi government and political currents are strongly opposed to Ankara's military presence in the north, calling its ongoing airstrikes a violation of its national sovereignty.

Saberin News reports that Turkish Defense Minister Halusi Akar is personally overseeing the air and ground operations of the Turkish military in the operations management room.
