Thursday, 5 May 2022 (YJC)_ Iran's Foreign Minister said trial of a former Iranian official in Sweden was illegal and called for his immediate freedom.

FM: Trial of Iranian Ex-Official was IllegalIn a phone conversation with his Swedish counterpart Ann Linde, Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said trial of a former Iranian official in Sweden was illegal and called for his immediate freedom.

“Iran considers the detention and trial of Hamid Nouri, an Iranian citizen, illegal and demands his immediate release,” he noted.

He went on to add that “a terrorist group who violates the right of the people of Iran and even Iraq, has taken over this sham process in Sweden and it is regretful.”

Prior to this Deputy Judiciary Chief and Secretary-General of Iran's Human Rights Headquarters Kazzem Gharibabadi voiced protest at the "unfair and unlawful" trial of Hamid Nouri in a Swedish court.

Swedish prosecutors have requested the maximum penalty of life imprisonment for Hamid Nouri, accusing the former Iranian judiciary official of prisoner abuse in 1988.
