Iran's top diplomat condoles Indonesia on AirAsia accident

Tehran, YJC. Zarif has expressed condolences to the Indonesian government and people on a civil aviation accident that killed 155 nationals from the East Asian country.

In a message on Sunday to Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad expressed Iran’s deep sympathy with the "friend and brother” administration of Indonesia over the unwelcome incident.

He also extended condolences to the families of the accident’s victims.

Indonesia AirAsia's Flight QZ8501, an Airbus A320-200 carrying 162 people, on December 28, 2014 lost contact with its air traffic control amid a heavy storm while it was on a flight from the city of Surabaya in Indonesia to Singapore.

About 40 minutes after it had taken off, the plane crashed into the Java Sea. All the people on board died.

There were 155 Indonesians nn board the plane, three from South Korean, and 1 person each from Singapore, Malaysia and Britain. The co-pilot was a French national.
