Tehran, YJC. Iran is building a new submarine with the capability of launching torpedo and missiles.

Currently going through the designing stage, Bethat will be 60 meters in length and is able to carry out missions in the depth of 300 meters.

Iranian military industry officials plan to mount 6 launchers for firing torpedoes and marine cruise missiles on the developing submarine and equip the subsurface vessel with mine-laying capability.

The colossal machine is said to weigh more than 1,300 tons.

Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector In recent years, and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military systems and weapons.

Iranian Army Commander Major General Ataollah Salehi in December hailed the high capabilities of Iranian naval forces, emphasizing that the country is able to overhaul and build different types of surface and subsurface vessels.

He had said "Our know-how is growing each day and we have been able to improve what we already have, thanks to Iranian experts' powerful hands.”

Iran has been tapping domestic know-how to improve its military level regardless of international sanctions.

Iranian officials have always asserted that territorial safety is the key to social and economic stability as goals pursued by the government.
