Tehran, YJC. Lawmaker says that being a statesman is a key prerequisite for presidential candidacy, which means that the political figure’s political direction must have religious origins.

Mohammad Dehqan, member of the Board of Directors of the Majlis, said "These guys must resolve political issues with religious approaches. Politics whereby one plans only to rise to power and act a Machiavellian way does not qualify.”

He then addressed oppositions concerning the role of the Guardian Council where people are supposed to choose their favorite for themselves, saying "According to the Constitution, the Guardian Council must approve the qualification only of the tactful, religious, and Iranian-born statesmen with executive capabilities.”
