Tehran, YJC. Hojatoleslam Ebrahimi has said that the Teachers Association does not officially endorse Velayati for the candidate was not agreed to by at least two third of the members.

Hojatoleslam Ali Ebrahimi said in an interview with Mehr News Agency "The Teachers Society held a meeting on Friday June 7, where it was decided that an extraordinary meeting be held for the members to express themselves on the existing candidates in the course of presidential elections, discussing which one of the candidates the Society would endorse.”

He added "Accordingly, the Teachers Society held a meeting on Saturday June 8 to evaluate candidates. After the discussions the majority of the members voted for Mr. Velayati, but the agreement of two thirds of the members was needed in order for the Society to issue an official announcement.”

Head of the Teacher’s Society Office on the Seminary of Qom pointed to questions and phone calls to the office asking about the Society’s support for a special candidate and said "Accordingly, Ayatollah Yazdi in a letter conveyed the opinion of the majority of the members of the Teachers Society who had stated their support for Mr. Velayati in written statements.”

He stressed the point that what has been issued as the Teachers Society opinion is a letter and not an announcement and added "Issuing an announcement on any subject by the Teachers Society is possible only with a two third majority which was not realized in this case.”
