He also offered condolences to the families of the victims.

“Taking the strategy of attacking and killing defenseless and innocent citizens in streets and public places shows the atrocity, cruelty and brutality of terrorist groups including Daesh which has shown that it does not abide by any moral and humane principle.”

He said that such attacks remind bitter memories for Iranian nation as a terrorism victim.

Qassemi said terrorism was rooted “in the policy that the United States and its allies have at certain junctures adopted in the Middle East to create, nurture, support, and exploit” terrorist groups for their own objectives and interests.

The suspect, reportedly a 29-year-old Uzbek immigrant, was shot and injured by police.

The only way to eradicate terrorism, he said, is for all countries to adopt a serious and honest approach to confronting the scourge.
