MOSCOW (Sputnik) — At least 15 German law enforcement officers were injured during clashes with pro-Kurdish demonstrators in the city of Dusseldorf on Saturday, local media have reported.

The violence erupted amid the pro-Kurdish rally, during which activists were demanding the release of Abdullah Ocalan, the jailed leader of the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK), outlawed as a terrorist organization in Turkey, the European Union and the United States.

The protesters reportedly started throwing various things on the law enforcement after the authorities had announced the end of the demonstration, Der Spiegel newspaper reported, citing a police spokesperson.

Police, in turn, used tear gas against the activists, the reports continued, adding that three demonstrators have been injured, and several others have been detained by the law enforcement.

The rally's participants were not allowed by the German law to bring banners or flags with the PKK symbols, or the pictures of Ocalan to the rally. The ban, however, was massively violated, according to various media reports.

Kurdish rallies in the German cities cause indignation in Ankara, due to their participants’ call on Turkey to release Ocalan, sentenced to life imprisonment. Ankara regards the organizers of these rallies as PKK's affiliates.
