Zarif, UN envoy discuss Afghanistan's developments

TEHRAN, November 20 - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif and Special Representative for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) Tadamichi Yamamoto discussed Afghanistan’s developments as they met here in Tehran on Monday.

Zarif, UN envoy discuss Afghanistan's developmentsTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - During the meeting, Tadamichi Yamamoto, outlined Afghanistan’s current situation and ways to continue peace talks in the country to establish stability and security.

Zarif, for his part, referred to Iran-Afghanistan cooperation, and stressed speeding up the cooperation in economic and political fields.

He also referred to increasing threats posed by Daesh in the region and Afghanistan and recent defeats of the terrorist group in Iraq and Syria, saying that Iran is ready to support Afghan unity government’s efforts.

Iran’s policies in Afghanistan for creating stability and appreciating UN’s support for initiatives to make peace in Afghanistan were also discussed by the two sides.

Zarif also said Iran is ready for close cooperation with the UN in fields related to Afghanistan.

“Iran calls for peace in Afghanistan and we are making effort for this goal.”
