Navy rescues Iran’s vessel attacked by pirates in Gulf of Aden

TEHRAN, November 26 - Iranian Navy foiled attempt of pirates in the Gulf of Aden who were seeking attack on an Iranian merchant vessel.

Navy rescues Iran’s vessel in Gulf of Aden attacked by piratesTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - The pirates attempted to attack the vessel named Caspian Harmony, but the attempt was defused by right presence of the Iranian Navy.

The pirates were equipped with semi-heavy weapons but then were made to flee after facing heavy fire by the Navy.

The Iranian Navy’s 48th flotilla is comprised by Alvand Destroyer and Lavan Logistic vessel and has been dispatched to high seas for providing security of Iranian shipping line.

Alvand destroyer is sailing the international waters as part of the 48th flotilla of Iran’s Navy, which began an overseas mission last month.

In recent years, Iran’s naval forces have increased their presence in the international waters to protect naval routes and provide security for merchant vessels and oil tankers.

In line with international efforts to combat piracy, the Iranian Navy has also been conducting anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden since November 2008 to safeguard the vessels involved in maritime trade, especially the ships and oil tankers owned or leased by Iran, Tasnim reported.
