TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -Renowned actor Jim Carrey, who had thought he only had minutes left to live when he received a false "incoming ballistic missile" text in Hawaii, has warned that US President Donald Trump’s insistence on "alienating the world" will eventually thrust America into unimaginable “suffering.”
“I woke up this morning in Hawaii with ten minutes to live,” Carrey wrote on Twitter Saturday, referencing a Emergency Alert System (EAS) message sent to citizens of Hawaii warning them to “seek immediate shelter” from a “ballistic missile threat.”
“It was a false alarm, but a real psychic warning. If we allow this one-man Gomorrah and his corrupt Republican congress to continue alienating the world we are headed for suffering beyond all imagination,” he added.
Carrey was among hundreds of thousands in Hawaii to think he had just minutes to live when he awoke Saturday morning to a government alert on his phone.
"Emergency Alert: BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL," the message read.
The erroneous message, reportedly sent to more than one million Hawaiians, created panic as the false alarm was not confirmed as false for more than thirty-five minutes after it was issued.
Hawaii Emergency Management Agency spokesman Richard Repoza later announced that it was a false alarm and the agency is trying to determine what happened and apologized for the mistake.
Trump was, according to the Associated Press, in Florida at the time and was briefed on the situation.
Carrey was not the only Hollywood star to slam Trump for the false alarm.
“YOU DID THIS!” said actress Jamie Lee Curtis on Twitter.
“This Hawaii missile scare is on YOU Mr. Trump. The real FEAR that mothers & fathers & children felt is on YOU. It is on YOUR ARROGANCE. HUBRIS. NARCISSISM. RAGE. EGO. IMMATURITY and your UNSTABLE IDIOCY. Shame on your hate filled self. YOU DID THIS!” she said in a tweet.
