TEHRAN, February 6 - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that recent currency rate increase has nothing to do with budget deficiency of the government.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Currency rate rise could not be because of commercial reasons, he said, “Because we have positive balance in providing currency and currency expenses. Our currency income is higher than our currency expenses, therefore the rise in the price could not be because of economic issues.”
Some say the government is behind the increased price, it could have been true if we had had budget deficiency, he said.
“We do not have budget deficiency this year,” he said in a press conference on Tuesday.
Rouhani noted that first ten months of this year (March 21, 2017- January 20, 2018) showed that the situation is better comparing to the year before. “We had some problems in January and February last year, but we do not have these problems this year.”
He assured that the situation would be improved in future, noting that the country’s currency and non-oil income have been higher comparing to the past.
He said that some decisions have been taken to control currency fluctuations in Iran.
