Rouhani asks Turkey to end military operation in SyriaTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Asked about why Iran has asked Turkey to bring an end to army operation in Afrin, he said, “Iran and Russia have had very good talks on regional issues, specially Syria. It is necessary that Iran-Turkey-Syria summit will be held soon to resolve Syrian crisis. We regard it as a very good opportunity and we will keep doing that.”

“Our relations with both Turkey and Russia is good, but our position to withdrawal of Turkish forces from Syria is a fundamental one because presence of army of a country in soil of another country should be under consent of the nation and government of that country. Otherwise, be believe that it is not fundamental and we will not accept that.”

“We want this to end soon,” because it is killing forces of the two sides, he said, Iran is also opposed to US presence in Syria because Washington is thinking about Syrian division.

Turkey launched the so-called Operation Olive Branch in Syria's Afrin on January 20 in a bid to eliminate the YPG, which Ankara views as a terror organization and the Syrian branch of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
