Parliamentary workgroup to pursue 1953 coup damage

Tehran, YJC. Lawmaker says that a special workgroup will investigate the damages done to the country through the 1953 coup.

Allahyar Malekshahi, Kouhdasht representative to the Majlis and Head of the Legal and Juristic Committee of the parliament said "The US is responsible for the 1953 coup and must answer;” adding "The first session of the workgroup to pursue the damages of the coup will be launched when the Majlis resumes operation.”

He added "There are a number of experts in the workgroup, including the heads of the Legal and Juristic, National Security and Foreign Policy, and Program and Budget committees as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, are responsible to estimate the amount of the damage. On the other hand, to define strategies and file a petition to reimburse the damage will be the next task of this expert workgroup.”

He added that after the parliamentary holiday the members of the workgroup will meet and share their views on the subject.

He also maintained that beside the mentioned bodies, other experts will also be sought help of in order to help the case.

Malekshahi added that whereas the coup had taken place 60 years before, US officials admitted to their role only a few months ago.

He pointed out that the case is to be pursued in international courts and that it holds rather legal aspects with no weight on the current relations between Iran and the US.
