Aggressors not deserving to be part of Syria peace process: Assad

TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) – Speaking at a meeting with Iranian foreign minister's special assistant for political affairs, Hossein Jaberi Ansari, in Damascus on Monday, Assad said the United States, Britain, France and their pawns in the region have been supporting terrorists since the start of the terror fight in Syria.

The Syrian president emphasized that the aggressors are not qualified to play a role in the Syria peace process.

He also praised the Islamic Republic’s support for his country’s campaign against terrorism and expressed his gratitude to the Iranian people and government.

Jaberi Ansari, for his part, congratulated Assad on the Arab country’s recent victories against foreign-backed terrorists and deplored the missile strikes as “a blatant violation” of the UN Charter.

The US and European allies launched airstrikes on April 14 against Syrian research, storage and military targets under the pretext of an earlier suspected chemical attack near Damascus.

Britain and France joined the United States in the strikes in a coordinated operation that was intended to show Western resolve in the face of what the leaders of the three nations called persistent violations of international law.

Within 90 minutes, the Russian ambassador to the US warned of “consequences” for the allied attacks.
