Speaking to Tasnim, Brigadier General Hadi Shirzad pointed to Iranian nationals’ traveling to Russia to watch the national football team’s matches in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and said five Iranian police officers have been dispatched to Russia to serve the nationals during the games and exchange police experiences.

He noted that police forces from countries whose national teams are present in the event should contribute to the security of the event.

“Our colleagues went to Russia prior to the start of the games and will be present in the country during the tournament,” the commander said.

He further said that the forces dispatched to Russia are fluent in English and fully acquainted with police and security issues.

Brigadier General Shirzad went on to say that Iranians in Russia can contact the officers in case they face any incidents or emergency situations.

Back in February, the chief of the Moscow police voiced his department’s readiness to share experiences with the Iranian police.

During a visit to Tehran in February, Major General Sergei Plakhikh hailed the history of cooperation between the police forces of the two countries.

Plakhikh also expressed the Russian police’s readiness to work with Iran in countering narcotics trafficking, extremism and cybercrimes.
