Participants in the Geneva discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia called for
strengthening stability in the region, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.
They praised the activity of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) meetings to maintain stability in Transcaucasia, the ministry said.
The delegations of Abkhazia, Georgia and South Ossetia, as well as of the U.S., the EU, the U.N. and the OSCE confirmed that they intended to continue the work within the IPRM on the regular basis. Russia's delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin.
"The group for security noted certain stability on the Abkhazian-Georgian and South Ossetian-Georgian borders. No victims and serious incidents have been reported. The group also stressed the need to continue the efforts aimed at fighting criminal structures on the border," the ministry said.
Focusing on the non-use of force in the region, the Abkhazian and South Ossetian delegations favoured an immediate sighing of peace agreements with Georgia.
"Unfortunately, Georgia was not ready for substantial discussions on draft agreements in this field," the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.
The next Geneva discussions will take place on December 17-18, 2013.
