The Pew Research Center poll for USA Today shows 32 percent approve of the deal, while 43 percent disapprove.
Support, as one might guess, is higher among Democrats (50-27 approve) than among Republicans (58-14 disapprove).
Iran has agreed, over the next six months, to freeze many of its nuclear programs and neutralize the uranium it has produced so far that is close to weapons grade. In exchange, it has received some temporarily relief from crippling economic sanctions.
The deal has also done nothing to increase Americans' faith in Iran's leaders. While in November 33 percent said Iran's leaders were "serious" about addressing nuclear concerns, just 29 percent say the same today.
At the same time, opinions aren't necessarily set in stone, because the vast majority of Americans aren't paying close attention to the situation. Just 24 percent say they have heard a lot about the agreement, while another 48 percent say they have heard a little. More than a quarter -- 28 percent -- say they have heard nothing at all.
Those who have heard a lot about the agreement are just a little more inclined to support it -- but they still disapprove of it by 51-44 percent.
