TEHRAN, December 08 - White House chief of staff John Kelly will leave his post at the end of this year, says US President Donald Trump.

WH chief of staff General Kelly to quit at year end, Trump saysTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -“John Kelly will be leaving, retiring. I don't know if I can say retiring,” Trump said on the South Lawn before leaving for Philadelphia on Saturday. “But he's a great guy. John Kelly will be leaving at the end of the year.”

Chief of staff to Vice President Mike Pence is expected to take over.

The move is among the most high-profile in the shake-up of Trump's team after Republican losses in November's midterm elections.

“It’s a very exhausting job,” the president added. “They start off, they’re young people, they’re there for two years, and they’re old by the time they leave.”

Kelly, 68, had spent four decades in the Marine Corps before emerging as a politician in the Trump administration.

Trump also dismissed Jeff Sessions as attorney general via Twitter the day after the midterms elections.

The president said Friday that his choice to replace him is former Attorney General William Barr.

If confirmed, Barr will play a key role in overseeing special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into the Trump campaign ties with Russia.

“I mean, there’s no great secret. A lot of administrations make changes after midterms. I will say that, for the most part, I’m very, very happy with this Cabinet,” Trump said when asked about Kelly.
