TEHRAN, YJC. Director of the Planning and Budget Commission of the Majlis has said that the public budget for next Iranian calendar year shows 70-80 percent increase.

Hojjat ol-Eslam Gholamreza Mesbahi Moghaddam said in the sidelines of the 4th Conference of the Supreme Audit Court in answer to the question why currency rate has not been determined in the upcoming year budget "In the general budget we set currency as the base for our calculations and it must be turned into Rials. Its consideration into the calculation does not impose a threat since replacement of currency to Rials in the budget law is not the same as its exchange in the market and it simply serves calculations.”

He said in answer to a question as to the extent of the independence of the budget on oil revenue "It is yet too early to have a word on that. But it seems if we want to make a comparison to last year, the independence has increased.”

He added "We think that in a situation when our cash income has decreased we must also keep balance between income and expenditure.”

Mesbahi also said regarding reports that the government intends to provide for the increase in expenditure via tax raise "We have no problem if a greater revenue is to come from taxes. But apparently the tax income has been estimated at 550 billion Rls which, adding customs revenue, it cannot make up for deficits.
