TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - “The Warsaw Summit is an American move with clear goals. It is not necessarily about Iran, but pursues specific goals,” Qassemi told reporters during his weekly press conference in Tehran on Monday.
“I think one of the major goals of this conference is to create division among European countries,” he said.
The spokesman added that the European countries will decide whether they will take part in the Polish conference or not but Iran is monitoring this meeting closely and will definitely take into account the countries’ performance in relation to this conference.
Iran has voiced its strong protest at the so-called conference on Middle East peace and security that the United States is going to hold jointly with Poland in Warsaw on February 13 and 14.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said earlier this month that the meeting would “focus on Middle East stability and peace and freedom and security here in this region, and that includes an important element of making sure that Iran is not a destabilizing influence.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has denounced the planned event in Poland as a “desperate anti-Iran circus.”
Zarif has also reminded Poland of the favor that Iran has done the Polish during the second world war, noting, “Polish government can't wash the shame: while Iran saved Poles in WWII, it now hosts desperate anti-Iran circus.”
