TEHRAN, YJC. With US having technology to extract shale gas, Iran has moved lower among countries most productive of gas Mehr News reports.
While Iran’s gas reserves points at 34 trillion m3 of gas, it is
expected that the amount will rise with exploration of newer reserves.
On the other hand, in the two past years as the US has developed
the technology for extracting unconventional gas such as shale gas, the
unconventional is added to countries’ total gas reserves.
Accordingly, British Petroleum has ranked in its latest report
Russia as the first. After Russia stand the US and China.
In this ranking issued early 2013 Iran occupies the fourth place
in total gas reserves, including unconventional ones.
In the meantime some Iranian officials have provided reports on finding gas
hydrate reserves in the Caspian Sea and the Gulf of Oman.
