TEHRAN, Feb 16 - Gunshot in US state of Illinois claimed the lives of five people on Friday, US media sources reported.

TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - The incident occurred as a gun man opened fire in an industrial area of Aurora, killing 5 people and injured a number of others. The police said that the gunman himself was also killed.

There were six police officers among the injured, including five who were shot and one who sustained a knee injury, UPI reported.

Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin, expressing his sadness over the day in the city, lamented the number of mass shootings in the United States.

"The horrible feeling that we get when we see [mass shootings] in the news, to experience it firsthand is even more painful," he said.

Last month also media sources reported a gunshot in Illinois, happened in Orland Park, in which at least one people was killed.

Mass shootings are a frequent occurrence in the United States where firearms sales are legal.

Most Americans, however, are opposed to the ruling gun culture in the United States and favor tightening the gun sales regulations.

The deadliest recent mass shooting in the US occurred on October 1, 2017 in Las Vegas when 64-year-old Stephen Paddock of Mesquite, Nevada, shot dead 59 people and injured almost 500 others.

Paddock, who was up in the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, opened fire into a huge audience attending a concert across from the hotel where he was staying.

The shooting lasted for about 10 to 15 minutes and when police found Paddock in his hotel room, he was dead. Authorities believe Paddock killed himself and that he acted alone.
