TEHRAN, YJC. Following blasts in Damascus on February 21 which left many dead or wounded, Iran’s FM has addressed the UN Secretary in a letter, stressing legal duties of countries and international organizations, including the UN, for a diplomatic way out of the crisis in Syria.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that the persistence of
aggression and explosions will postpone a diplomatic way out as they show the
helplessness of the sides which find their interests in an unstable Syria,”
said Salehi in his letter.
The Iranian Foreign Minister believed that a delay in resolving
the Syrian crisis will benefit neither the Syrian nation, nor countries of the
region or the world.
"This delay can spread the crisis over the region and prepare
grounds for conflict between ethnicities and parties evermore, something that
will have destructive effects not only on the region and the Islamic world, but
also on the international community,” Salehi asserted.
He added "Therefore we believe that it is the humanitarian,
altruistic, and at the same time legal duty of countries and international
organizations, especially the United Nations, to support a common cooperation
for a resolution of the Syrian crisis.”
