TEHRAN, Mar 15 - Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Seyed Abbas Araqchi held talks on Friday with Foreign Secretary of Pakistan Tehmina Janjua on Iran’s stance on recent conflicts between Pakistan and India, calling for “peaceful resolution” of the disputes.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - “Today I spoke w Tehmina Janjua, Foreign Secretary of Pakistan over phone,” Araqchi said on his Twitter account on Friday.
“Iran & Pakistan are close neighbors and friends. We agreed to strengthen our cooperation in all fields inc. fighting terrorism,” he added in his tweet.
“Iran calls for de-escalation and peaceful resolution of Pakistan-India conflict,” the diplomat stated.
Tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad soared after a suicide bombing on Feb. 14 killed 40 Indian security personnel in the disputed region of Kashmir.
Jaish-e-Muhammad, a Pakistan-based terrorist group, asserted responsibility for the attack, and on Feb. 26, India launched a retaliatory airstrike. Pakistan responded the next day, and the two countries engaged in their first aerial dogfight in decades, according to media reports.
On Thursday, Indian and Pakistani officials held their first bilateral meeting since the outbreak of hostilities that raised fears the two nuclear-armed neighbors could stumble into war.
