Int’l Quran competitions contenders start arriving in Iran

TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Speaking at a press conference in Tehran on Sunday, Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Mostafa Hosseini, the head of the organizing committee, said 184 Quran activists from 84 countries have made it to the semi-final round of the contests.

He added that the semi-final round will be held in Tehran on Tuesday and Wednesday morning and that the official opening ceremony is slated for Wednesday afternoon.

The 36th International Quran Competition of the Islamic Republic of Iran as well as four other international Quran contests- those for women, school students, seminary students, and the visually-impaired- will be held on April 10-14, he noted.

According to the official, there will also be cultural programs and exhibitions on the sidelines of the contests.

The Imam Khomeini (RA) Mosalla (prayer hall) will host the main competition, he said.

The Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization annually organizes the competition with the participation of Quran memorizers and reciters from various countries.

Last year, nearly 370 foreign guests, including the contenders, Quran experts and members of the panels of judges, took part in the competition and other international contests held in Tehran simultaneously.
