TEHRAN, Apr 13 - Israeli planes targeted a military position near the province of Hama in Syria on Saturday, but Syrian air defences intercepted and downed some of the rockets, state television said on Saturday.

TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Citing military sources, SANA news agency and Syrian state television reported that Israeli aircraft had targeted one of the country's military positions towards the city of Masyaf.

The enemy missiles were dealt with and some of them were shot down before reaching their target, resulting in the damage of a few buildings and the injury of three fighters.

Hama is a city on the banks of the Orontes River in west-central Syria.

It is located 213 km north of Damascus and 46 kilometres north of Homs. It is the provincial capital of the Hama province.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011.

The Syrian government says the Israeli regime and its Western and regional allies are aiding Takfiri terrorist groups wreaking havoc in the country.

The Israeli regime has launched airstrikes on Syrian territory from time to time. Such aggressive moves are usually viewed as attempts to prop up terrorist groups suffering setbacks at the hand of Syrian government forces.
