Iran, North Korea not the same in nuclear energy: Salehi

Iran Minister of Foreign Affairs says that Iran and North Korea fare on completely separate ways in terms of nuclear energy.

Speaking in a press conference in Moscow, Salehi said that Iran is the only country among 57 Islamic countries to have sent satellite to the space, thanks to the sanctions. "The Islamic Republic of Iran is pretty much independent in terms of defense tools,” he added.

He stated that "Political independence comes with costs for any country, but the Iranian nation showed in February 10 demonstratoins that it is ready to pay any price for esteem and dignity.”


Answering a question on the impact of North Korea nuclear test on Iran-5+1 negotiations, Salehi said "Iran and North Korea are two separate countries, each going its own way.”

"North Korea is not a member of the NPT and behaves accordingly,” he added.

He added that Iran is a member of the NPT and considers it of great importance and it will remain a member.
