TEHRAN, YJC. Acting Minister of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education has said that the PET-CT makes diagnosis of 85 percent of cancer cases possible, while it also can be used to produce radiopharmaceuticals.
Dr. Mohammad Hossein Tarighat Monfared said in the sidelines
of the inauguration ceremony for the PET-CT in te Masih Daneshvari Hospital "This
is a scientific and health miracle and it means the independence of the country
which has been materialized in the past years, thanks to our researchers.”
Acting Minister of the Ministry of Health and Medical
Education pointed out the achievements of researchers in radiopharmaceuticals
in the past couple of years and said "Radiopharmaceuticals can be produced with
this device and reduce the country’s need for importing them.”
He also suggested that despite sanctions, Iranian scientists
have not set back for a moment and have progressed along pioneering countries
in health sciences.
Tarighat Monfared also believed that Iran has a lot to say
in science, adding "The country’s first cancer diagnosis and imaging system can
have application in the diagnosis and controlling of 85 percent of cases and it
can be used also in 15 percent of cardiac and brain diseases.”
"This device is the
most expensive imaging system in the world. With this we will be able to
produce radiopharmaceuticals needed in the country,” he stated.
