Paris police brace 'black blocs' May 1

TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - More than 7,400 police and gendarmes will be deployed across Paris on Wednesday, with orders to take an "extremely firm stance" if faced with any violence during the annual May Day rallies, AFP said.

Interior Minister Christophe Castaner says "based on the information we have, 1,000 to 2,000 radical activists, potentially reinforced by individuals coming from abroad, who could try to spread lawlessness and violence".

Many are anti-capitalist youths, often known as "black blocs", who dress in black and wear face masks, according to AFP.

This is while the protest-hit country is witnessing every Saturday the anti-capitalist movement of the Yellow Vest protesters since Nov. 17, 2018.

The protests, named after motorists’ high-visibility yellow jackets, began in November over fuel tax increases but morphed into a nationwide movement against government capitalist policies.

The yellow vests coalition includes numerous anti-Europe protesters, many of whom are calling for a 'Frexit', which would see France leave the EU.
