TEHRAN, May 21- Responding to a recent tweet by Donald Trump against Iran, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said economic terrorism and genocidal taunts will not “end” Iran, and said the Iranian nation has “stood tall” against aggressors for millennia.

Zarif to Trump: Iranian nation has stood tall against aggressors for millenniaTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - “Goaded by #B_Team, @realdonaldTrump hopes to achieve what Alexander, Genghis & other aggressors failed to do. Iranians have stood tall for millennia while aggressors all gone. #EconomicTerrorism & genocidal taunts won't "end Iran". #NeverThreatenAnIranian. Try respect—it works!” Zarif tweeted on Monday.

It came after Trump in a tweet on Sunday said, "If Iran wants to fight, that will be the official end of Iran. Never threaten the United States again!"

In early May, the US deployed warships and warplanes to the Middle East.

Tensions escalated even further after an incident with four tankers off the United Arab Emirates on Sunday, with US investigators reportedly blaming Iran.

No evidence of Iran’s role has emerged and Tehran has called for an investigation.

Iran has condemned the attack as “dreadful” and a lawmaker said Iranian suspicions fell on Israel.
